How to use this calculator
- Set units and cross-section (CS). CS is the O-ring's stock thickness (the round diameter of the ring itself), not its inner diameter. Know the AS568 dash number? The matching series is listed for you — otherwise choose "Custom" and enter the CS.
- Choose the application type. Static, dynamic (reciprocating), face/flange, or rotary. This sets the recommended squeeze range — static seals take more squeeze for a tight seal; dynamic and rotary use less to limit friction and heat.
- Fine-tune target squeeze with the slider if your design requires it, staying inside the range shown.
- (Optional) Enter the O-ring ID for an install-stretch check — keep stretch on the ID under about 5%.
- Machine the gland to the results: cut the groove to the depth shown, set the width for ~75% gland fill (stay within the 60–85% range), hold the surface finish, and add the groove-bottom radius. Heed the fill warning — over 90% risks groove damage from thermal or chemical swell.
